WHAT IS THE BWV LEGAL OUTREACH GOSPEL INITIATIVE?

WHAT IS THE BWV LEGAL OUTREACH GOSPEL INITIATIVE?

The BWV Legal Outreach Gospel Initiative is an affiliate of the Gospel Justice Initiative, founded by Bruce Strom. Together, we work to build justice communities by offering access to justice and access to Jesus. Through our legal services clinics, clients are able to obtain sound legal advice and guidance from a volunteer attorney at a reduced fee or at no cost. Clients are also invited to pray with our prayer team before and after their meeting, although prayer is not required, but is encouraged.

Our clinics are usually held on Saturday mornings, and on some occasions during the evening.  Our legal clinics are designed to handle many civil matters, such as dissolution of marriage (divorce), bankruptcy, evictions, power of attorneys and under some circumstances limited criminal cases.

At our clinics, non-attorneys are welcome and appreciated. No formal legal education or training is required. What is required is a love to help our vulnerable neighbors and citizens, such as the elderly and low-income individuals and families.  Our non-attorneys volunteer play an important role at and after our clinics. At the clinic they serve as prayer champions, hospitality and client advocates. They provide follow up with our clients after clinic to ensure that the client's social, legal or spiritual needs are met.

Our volunteer attorneys  serve our clients at our clinics by offering legal advice and guidance, and receive from our clinics.  Attorneys who serve are clients are also making a difference in the lives of people who cannot afford an attorney and also making a difference in the community and are an important role in helping us to build a justice community within the Mid-Missouri area. Attorneys are encouraged to pray with our clients, however, prayer is not a requirement. We are always seeking volunteer attorneys, as well as law students and paralegals.
